Scope
The goal of this workshop is to facilitate the research and development of a novel class of semiconductor alloys utilizing bismuth, the largest group-V element. This is an interdisciplinary meeting, bringing together physicists, chemists, materials scientists, and engineers, to address this important emerging area, for a focused three-day workshop.

The 9th International Workshop on Bismuth-Containing Semiconductors will be held in Kyoto, Japan, with a Welcome Reception on July 15th, 2018, and scientific sessions on 16th - 18th July, 2018. Workshop themes will include, but not limited to,

  • Epitaxial techniques for growing Bismuth alloys, hetero- and nano-structures, and other metastable semiconductors,
  • Theory of the electronic band structure of Bismides and other highly mis-matched alloys,
  • Optical, electronic and structural characterization of Bismide and related alloys,
  • Device physics (photonics, electronics, spintronics and thermoelectrics),
  • System demands and applications.

Important: Hotel reservation
Since the workshop will be held in the high season in Kyoto, it is probably difficult to reserve hotel through a hotel booking site. We strongly recommend you to reserve your accommodation through the workshop website by June 20, 2018. The hotel reservation though the workshop site will be closed after June 21, 2018.

Important dates and deadlines
April 30, 2018------Extended deadline of abstract submission
Mid-May, 2018-----Notice of acceptance
June 20, 2018-------Deadline of hotel reservation
July 1, 2018---------Deadline of pre-registration
July 15-18, 2018---Workshop

History
The International Workshop on Bismuth-Containing Semiconductors is an informal workshop meeting that occurs mid-July every year and that was founded by the participants of the Materials World Network: III-V Bismide Materials for IR and Mid IR Semiconductors. During the three years of the Materials World Network program these folks served as the steering committee and program committee and some as hosts of the workshop venue. The founders will continue to serve as the steering committee to guide the workshop into the future. Starting from 2013 the workshop venue was broadened to include hosts in the global bismuth materials community with locations at the University of Arkansas in the US in 2013, the Tyndall Institute in Ireland in 2014, the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the US in 2015, the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology in Shanghai, China, in 2016, the Philipps-Universitat Marburg, Germany, in 2017.
